U.S. Senate confirms new ambassador to Ukraine

The U.S. Senate has confirmed Marie Yovanovitch as the new U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine.

New York Times reporter David Herszenhorn posted this on Twitter.

 "Marie L. Yovanovitch is confirmed by Senate as US ambassador to Ukraine replacing Geoffrey Pyatt at crucial juncture in country's history," he wrote.

The journalist added that former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Pyatt was confirmed by the Senate as the Ambassador to Greece.

As reported, President Barack Obama put forward Marie Yovanovitch's candidacy in May.

August 2001-June 2004, Marie Yovanovitch worked as the Deputy U.S. Ambassador and was Charge d'Affaires in Ukraine. Later, she served as the U.S. Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
