The European Union reaffirms unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, according to Ambassador Silvio Gonzato, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to the United Nations.

He said this at a UN General Assembly meeting on the situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine in New York on Thursday, February 20.

"The European Union recalled its unwavering support to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, unity and independence of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, including its territorial waters," Gonzato said.

He noted that Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea is "not only a serious bilateral or European concern but a global one."

"The EU reconfirms its condemnation of this violation of international law and continues to implement its consistent non-recognition policy of the illegal annexation, including through restrictive measures together with its transatlantic partners," the diplomat said.

Gonzato stressed that "the EU will continue to support Ukraine's resilience, including by improving its ability to counter hybrid threats."

"The EU reaffirms resolute support for Ukraine's reform efforts, especially when it comes to the implementation of commitments linked to the Association Agreement," he said.
