Strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia and the development of the 16th package of sanctions were the main topics of President Volodymyr Zelensky's meeting with President of the European Council António Costa in Krakow.

Zelensky announced this on social media, Ukrinform reports.

“I had a meeting with the President of the European Council, António Costa, in Kraków. Among our key topics were strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia and the 16th package of sanctions. We value today’s decision by the EU to extend sanctions against Russia for another six months. It is crucial to continue exerting pressure on Putin, as sanctions remain one of the truly powerful tools for this purpose,” Zelensky noted.

The parties also discussed defense assistance for Ukraine, the development of the Ukrainian defense industry, and the importance of new initiatives to supply ammunition.

“All of these measures will strengthen Ukraine’s position in achieving a just and lasting peace. I am grateful for supporting Ukraine and our people,” Zelensky noted.

As reported, on January 27, Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Poland on a visit to participate in events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, where more than a million people died during World War II. Most of the prisoners killed by the Nazis were Jews. Today, the world honors the memory of all victims of the Holocaust.
