Ukrainian Ambassador calls out Polish ex-minister's comments against Ukraine, Zelensky

Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar says the recent comments by Polish politician Przemysław Czarnek that targeted Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky are "unacceptable", "expressed in the spirit of Russian propaganda, which harms Ukrainian-Polish relations".

Bodnar made the statement on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

"The statement by the deputy of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, Przemysław Czarnek, in which an subjective judgment was made about Ukraine and its President, is absolutely unacceptable. Such rhetoric contradicts the official position of Poland, the spirit of strategic partnership and solidarity, but repeats the narratives of the Russian aggressor and deliberately undermines the security of Poland and Europe," Bodnar wrote.

On the sidelines of Sunday's program conference in support of Polish presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki, Czarnek commented to Polish media on Friday's meeting in Washington between Ukrainian and U.S. Presidents. In his comment, the Polish ex-government official emphasized that the President of Ukraine, when asking for further assistance to Ukraine from the United States, "must know where he is going and behave like everyone else." He noted that he cannot imagine a situation where a President of Poland would visit the U.S. and demand "more American troops (in Poland - ed.), because otherwise America would be in danger."

"We would say that he is a fool. And he behaved like one, unfortunately, there is no need to hide this, the President of Ukraine, which is being bombed by Russia," Czarnek said.

Przemysław Czarnek, former Polish Minister of Education in the government of Mateusz Morawiecki, is known for his sharp statements, particularly targeting Ukraine and Ukrainians.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said it is important to make an EU decision in June to extend the freeze on Russian assets, which Hungary may oppose.
