Türkiye hopes that the path to achieving peace in Ukraine will start off with an immediate ceasefire before a stable peace agreement is reached.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told Turkish journalists, commenting on the meeting of European leaders in London, Ukrinform reports with reference to Sabah.

“A possible peace agreement and ceasefire in Ukraine were discussed and how this could be possible. There are different ideas, different opinions on the table. In light of the position taken by the U.S. in recent weeks, or the increasing clarification of this position, different views have emerged in the EU. All this was discussed by European leaders. Of course, Türkiye’s contribution here is important,” said Hakan Fidan.

According to the top diplomat, Türkiye has its own vision both for a possible peace agreement and for the reconstruction of the European security architecture, which were discussed in London.

“Of course, we are closely following these discussions and we will all see together whether there could be a peace agreement in Ukraine and, accordingly, whether Europe will have a new security architecture. I hope there will be an immediate ceasefire and then a permanent peace agreement. What elements will make this possible? Different countries have different views on the issue. Our priority is peace,” the Turkish minister said.

According to Hakan Fidan, meetings will now be held more often, in particular once every two to three weeks. Technical groups will be set up to continue negotiations.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, a summit dedicated to Ukraine was held in London, following which the leaders emphasized that strong security guarantees should be the basis of a potential. During a conversation with journalists at Stansted Airport completing a visit to the United Kingdom, President Volodymyr Zelensky once again emphasized that Ukraine has no intention of giving up its territories temporarily occupied by Russia.
