General Consul: Lives of Ukrainians injured in road accident in Poland are not in danger

The lives of the victims of the accident that took place on Saturday morning in western Poland are not in danger.

This was stated by the General Consul of Ukraine in Wroclaw Yuri Tokar in an exclusive comment to Ukrinform.

"As of now, the lives of the Ukrainians who suffered in this accident are not in danger, their condition is assessed as stable," Tokar said.

According to him, most of the victims will be discharged from hospitals within a week. Only one older person will require longer treatment.

The Consul General said that in addition to the 28-year-old driver, there were eight other people in the Renault minibus with Ukrainian registration, which was travelling from Ukraine to Germany, including two families. In one case, it was a mother with two children, and in the other, a mother with a child and a niece. In addition, a girl and an older woman were also travelling in the minibus.

The victims of the accident were taken to several hospitals in the Lubuski and Wielkopolskie provinces in western Poland, in particular in the cities of Gożów Wielkopolski, Zielona Góra and Nowy Tomysl.

Tokar said that Ukrainian consuls are in contact with both the victims and their families. In particular, the husbands of two Ukrainian women who were travelling with their children are now on their way to Poland from Germany.

According to him, the police are currently investigating the cause of the accident. It is known that the driver, who is also currently in hospital, was sober.

The Consulate General keeps the accident and the victims under special control.

As the agency reported, at about 4 a.m. on 20 July, near the town of Świecie in the Województwo lubuskie, a minibus collided with a technical vehicle. There were nine Ukrainian citizens on the bus. All of them were hospitalised. The condition of five Ukrainian citizens was assessed as critical at the time. Among the victims are four children aged 2, 3, 4 and 15.
