United States closes airspace to all Russian flights - Biden
U.S. President Joe Biden has stated that the United States will close its airspace to Russian airlines and private aircraft.
The U.S. President said this on Tuesday in his State of the Union address, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
"Tonight I'm announcing that we will join our allies in closing off American airspace to all Russian flights, further isolating Russia and adding additional squeeze on their economy," the President said.
Earlier, the EU decided to prohibit all Russian-owned, Russian registered or Russian-controlled aircraft to land in, take off, or overfly the territory of the EU. This will apply to absolutely all Russian aircraft, including private ones. Some other countries have joined these sanctions over Russia's war against Ukraine.
As reported, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine and launched a large-scale invasion. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure. Missiles hit residential buildings.
Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.
Ukraine officially filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague.
