Canada: No-fly zone would be severe escalation
Establishing a no-fly zone over Ukraine by NATO forces is not on the table at the current time as this will provoke Russia into intensifying the conflict.
“NATO is a defensive alliance and putting in place a no-fly zone would be a severe escalation on the part of NATO and it is not on the table at the current time,” Minister of National Defence of Canada Anita Anand said during a press conference in Ottawa, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Anand stressed that Canada would continue to support Ukraine in other ways.
We will also continue to support NATO's defense and deterrence, especially by increasing our support for NATO's eastern flank, the minister said.
On February 27, U.S. congressmen from both parties Gerald Connolly and Mike Turner asked U.S. President Joe Biden to close the skies over Ukraine, where Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure since February 24. Missiles hit residential buildings, people are dying.
