MEP von Cramon: Russia must be stripped of its veto power, expelled from UN Security Council
Due to a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, violations of international law, and killing of civilians, Russia must be expelled from the UN Security Council and stripped of its veto power.
"Putin's Russia became a rogue state that has grossly violated all key principles of the international law by invading Ukraine and killing civilians. It is unacceptable that the murders’ regime with such a track record is still a member of the United Nations Security Council and can veto crucial resolutions," MEP from Germany Viola von Cramon-Taubadel told Ukrinform.
"All crimes committed by the Kremlin in Ukraine, death of every civilian will be thoroughly investigated, the world will serve Putin [regime] justice. Meanwhile, we need to continue supporting Ukraine by all means and continue isolating Russia from the civilized world,” the politician summed up.
On February 24, Russian president Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure facilities, conducting massive attacks on residential districts of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers, and ballistic missiles.
Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.
Ukraine officially filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague. International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan initiated the start of investigation into the situation in Ukraine.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine, with the support of all Ukrainian people, courageously resist the Russian aggression.
