Russian invasion update: Residential areas of Kyiv, other cities hit by night shelling

The Russian invaders shelled residential areas of the capital and other Ukrainian cities overnight, the press service of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces informed on its Facebook page.

"The eighth day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to the Russian military invasion continues. The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to steadily defend certain borders and counterattack and block the occupiers' forces in various directions,” the report says.

The enemy continues its offensive operation in the area of Novy Aidar, Volnovakha and Mariupol. However, the Russian forces did not achieve the main goal - the seizure of Mariupol and reaching the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

In the Polissia direction, the enemy is trying to carry out offensive operations in the area of Kozarovychi, Vyshhorod, Fastiv, and Obukhiv. Being repelled by the Ukrainian army in Chernihiv, Nizhyn and Sumy, Lebedyn and Okhtyrka, Russian troops tried to reach the northern outskirts of Kyiv but again were stopped.

In the Slobozhansky direction, the enemy carries out offensive operations in the area of Zolochiv, Kharkiv, Balakliia, trying to continue offensive operation in the direction of Lozova,

For the first time since the beginning of the war, Russian war criminals have acknowledged mass casualties among own troops. During the evening briefing, an official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense released information about the losses of the Russian occupation forces in Ukraine: 498 killed and 1,597 wounded.

As Ukrinform reported, the press service of the Joint Forces Operation reported Russia’s operation to capture Ukraine was set to last from February 20 to March 6.
