Zelensky says bombing of Moscow Patriarchate Church in Kharkiv "tragic irony"
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the shelling of the Assumption Cathedral in Kharkiv by Russian troops.
He expressed his reaction at a meeting with the foreign media at the President’s Office in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"The Holy Dormition Cathedral. Such a tragic irony… The President of the Russian Federation said that there are many challenges in Ukraine, including nationalism, that one church suppresses the freedom of another church, that is, the Moscow Patriarchate… Now there’s a bombing outside the Assumption Cathedral. A Russian bomb was launched on the Moscow Patriarchate Church. So much for Putin defending his church," the head of the Ukrainian state noted.
At the same time, Zelensky stressed that there are many churches in Ukraine and that they are all equal.
As reported, the Holy Dormition Cathedral of the Moscow Patriarchate was damaged in the center of Kharkiv in a shelling on March 2. The windows, including stained glass ones, were shattered and the decoration was damaged.
