Mayor of Russian-bombed Okhtyrka saves city during day, operates on people at night
Head of the Okhtyrka City Council Pavlo Kuzmenko, a doctor by profession, saves the city heavily bombed by Russian invaders during the day and operates on people at night.
Dmytro Zhyvytskyi, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration (RMA), wrote this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
"I believe that Okhtyrka is a hero city! And its mayor, Pavlo Petrovych Kuzmenko, who saves the city during the day and operates on people at night (he is a doctor by profession), is a real superhero and deserves the highest awards," Zhyvytskyi wrote.
The RMA head noted that the community of Okhtyrka, its civilians who have become hostages of the Russian aggression, are holding up in this situation.
According to Zhyvytskyi, the city has been left without heat after the thermal power plant was destroyed by enemy bombardments on March 3. Yesterday, Russian aircraft launched air strikes on warehouses with food supplies, building materials and a fuel truck parking.
As reported, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine and launched a large-scale invasion. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure. Missiles hit residential buildings.
Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.
Ukraine officially filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation with the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague.
