About 95% of Russian troops at border now in Ukraine – Pentagon

As of March 6, the number of Russian troops deployed to Ukraine reached 95% of the number Putin had previously concentrated near the Ukrainian border under the guise of military exercises.

According to Washington Examiner, a senior U.S. defense official told reporters on Sunday evening, Ukrinform reports.

“Of the roughly 170,000 stationed [earlier] along the Ukrainian border in Russia and Belarus, ‘somewhere near 95%’ of them are now within the country,” he said.

According to him, this marks a rise from the Pentagon’s 92% estimate on Friday.

As Ukrinform reported, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Sunday that NATO members, namely the Republic of Poland, had got “green light” to send fighter jets to Ukraine, while the United States and allies are increasing the defense support for Ukraine.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine and launched a large-scale invasion.
