About 5,000 people from Sumy already safe – President’s Office
Two waves of the evacuation of civilians from Sumy city on March 8 were successful, with about 5,000 people already safe.
"Two waves of the evacuation from Sumy were completed successfully. About 5,000 people and more than 1,000 private vehicles are already safe,” Deputy Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko posted on Telegram.
As reported, on March 8, a humanitarian corridor was opened for the city of Sumy along the route: Sumy - Holubivka - Lokhvytsia - Lubny - Poltava. Two waves of civilian evacuations were carried out.
On February 24, Russian president Putin launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops kill civilians, shell and destroy key infrastructure, and missiles hit Ukrainians' homes.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on general mobilization.
