Americans want U.S. to close skies over Ukraine, provide more weapons – poll

The vast majority of U.S. citizens support closing the skies over Ukraine, increasing sanctions against the Russian Federation and providing weapons to Ukrainians, according to the results of a poll conducted among Americans.

The findings were published by the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

The results of the poll, conducted online in early March 2022, show that "the American people are determined on issues related to sanctions against Russia and the closure of the skies over Ukraine."

According to published data, 81% of respondents said that Washington should impose additional sanctions on Russia, 75% of Americans believe that the United States and NATO should close the skies over Ukraine, 72% support the provision of US weapons to Ukraine.

In addition, 74% of Americans are convinced that the United States should accept Ukrainian refugees, 77% said that the assets of Russian oligarchs should be seized.

Some 80% of respondents called for the suspension of US purchases of Russian oil, whereas 62% said they were willing to pay more for fuel and gas to protect the democracy.

As reported, on March 8, U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the United States was banning Russian oil and gas imports to the U.S. market.

On February 24, Russia declared war on Ukraine and launched a large-scale invasion.
