There could be threat of radiation leak at Chornobyl NPP in 48 hours - Kuleba
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has called on the international community to influence Russia to restore electricity supply to the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant as soon as possible.
According to Ukrinform, he announced this on Twitter.
"The only electrical grid supplying the Chornobyl NPP and all its nuclear facilities occupied by Russian army is damaged. CNPP lost all electric supply. I call on the international community to urgently demand Russia to cease fire and allow repair units to restore power supply," he said.
According to Kuleba, reserve diesel generators have a 48-hour capacity to power the Chornobyl NPP. After that, cooling systems of the storage facility for spent nuclear fuel will stop, making radiation leaks imminent.
"Putin's barbaric war puts entire Europe in danger," he said.
Earlier reports said that the Chornobyl NPP was left without electricity due to the actions of Russian invaders. Due to the ongoing fighting, it is impossible to carry out repairs and restore power supply.
