Over the past week, 39,426 people have managed to leave Mariupol city in private transport.
The Mariupol City Council wrote on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"Over the past week, despite the fact that there was no ceasefire regime, more than 39,000 Mariupol residents left through the open corridor Mariupol-Berdiansk-Zaporizhzhia. People escaped from besieged Mariupol in their own vehicles," the City Council said.
In total, more than 8,000 private cars left the city in the direction of Berdiansk under continuous Russian shelling, from where they then went to Zaporizhzhia. For those who for various reasons could not continue movement on their own, an evacuation bus from Berdiansk to Zaporizhzhia was organized.
The war with Russian invaders has been going on in Ukraine since February 24.
