Russian invaders abduct mayor of Beryslav in Kherson Region

Russian invaders have abducted Beryslav Mayor Oleksandr Shapovalov and one more local activist in Kherson Region.

The relevant statement was made by Kherson Regional Military Administration Head Hennadii Lahuta on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“On March 19, 2022, about 11:00 a.m., Russian invaders abducted Beryslav Mayor Oleksandr Shapovalov and one more local activist,” Lahuta wrote.

In his words, they are held hostage. Yesterday Shapovalow was allowed to make a call to relatives and calm them down.

According to Lahuta, Shapovalov has heart problems and had a hard time recovering from the coronavirus disease.

The exact location of Shapovalov and other hostages is unknown. Most likely, Russians are keeping them in Nova Kakhovka.

According to Lahuta, in cooperation with central authorities, the regional administration is making every effort to ensure that those captured by Russian troops come back home.

A reminder that, on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, starting a war. Russian troops are shelling and destroying the key infrastructure facilities, launching missile and air strikes on Ukrainian cities and villages, killing civilians.
