Ukraine Army holding enemy back, going for counteroffensive in certain areas - General Staff
The Ukrainian forces are holding back Russian invaders in the East, Southeast, and Northeast.
That’s according to an operational update on the Russian invasion as of 06:00 on March 29, 2022.
The thirty-fourth day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian nation to the Russian military invasion began. The Ukrainian Defense Forces Grouping continues its defense operation in the Eastern, Southeastern, and Northeastern directions. The Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully hold back the enemy in all directions, while in some areas our troops carry out successful counterattacks,” the update says.
The enemy pursues insidious missile and bomb strikes, trying to destroy infrastructure and residential areas of Ukrainian cities. The Russians are now focusing on fuel storage facilities in order to complicate logistics and create conditions for a humanitarian crisis.
In violation of the requirements of International Humanitarian Law in some temporarily occupied settlements of Kyiv, Zaporizhia, Chernihiv, Kherson, and Kharkiv regions, the Russian occupiers continue to terrorize the local population. They are shelling residential buildings, robbing, abducting civilians and taking them hostage, as well as looting the affected areas.
The Joint Forces of Ukraine repulsed seven enemy attacks in Donetsk and Luhansk directions throughout the day. The Ukrainian forces “destroyed 12 tanks, 10 infantry fighting vehicles and three vehicles.” The enemy suffered manpower losses.
“The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine over the previous day downed 17 air targets - eight warplanes, three helicopters, four UAVs of various types, and two cruise missiles,” the update reports.
Also, Ukrainian warplanes conducted missile and bomb strikes on sites where enemy manpower and equipment are amassed. Russian losses are being verified.
Between February 24 and March 28, Russian forces lost about 17,000 forces, 586 main battle tanks, 1,694 armored combat vehicles, 302 artillery systems, 95 multiple launch rocket systems, 54 air defense systems, 123 warplanes, 127 helicopters, 1,150 vehicles, seven vessels, 73 fuel tankers, and 66 UAVs.
