One body found under rubble in Lysychansk, five people rescued

In Lysychansk, a town in the Luhansk region shelled by Russian forces, Ukrainian emergency workers found the body of one person under the rubble, rescuing five people and evacuating eight more to safety.

According to Ukrinform, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said this in a statement posted on Telegram.

"Intense shelling rocked Lysychansk in the morning. We have significant destruction of residential high-rise buildings. There are probably people under the rubble. […] So far, emergency workers have rescued five people, evacuated eight to safe places and, unfortunately, found one person dead under the rubble. The work is underway," the statement reads.

According to the statement, 13 rescuers and three emergency vehicles are working at the scene. Information about casualties is being clarified.

On February 24, Russian President Putin launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying critical infrastructure, with missiles hitting the homes of Ukrainians.
