Ministry of Culture and Information Policy calls on UNESCO to transfer 45th session from Kazan to Lviv
The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine calls on UNESCO to transfer the 45th session from Russian Kazan to Ukrainian Lviv and to exclude the Russian Federation from the organization.
Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko wrote this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
According to the minister, Russia sees in its goals the physical and historical destruction of Ukraine by bombing and shelling cultural and architectural monuments
"Once again, I call on UNESCO to transfer the 45th session from Kazan to Lviv. The Russian Federation, which cynically destroys everything in its path with its own hands, cannot be the organizer of the session and a participant in the organization!” Tkachenko emphasized.
He reminded that culture has become a political tool in Russia: actors, directors, music performers become mouthpieces of the Kremlin propaganda, and "Z", a symbol of Russian aggression, can be seen now on cultural buildings.
"Culture is a space of freedom, inspiration, true witness and deep understanding, not a propaganda of self-aggrandizement, cruelty and humiliation of others. It is not about building distorted ideas about the world in favor of a criminal political regime, and not about crooked mirrors in which the truth does not matter,” the minister said.
As Ukrinform reported, on March 18, Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko and EU culture ministers called on UNESCO to cancel the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee in Kazan and hold it in Lviv.
