In Ukraine, 148 children already killed by Russian invaders
Since the launch of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 148 children have been killed and 232 wounded in hostilities.
That’s according to Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova, Ukrinform reports.
"As of 8:00 on March 31, 2022, according to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations, as well as other sources that need verification, 148 children have died and 232 children have been injured since the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine," she said.
It is currently impossible to establish the actual number of children killed and injured amid active hostilities in Ukrainian settlements.
According to juvenile prosecutors, most children were injured in the regions of Kyiv (69), Donetsk (57), Kharkiv (53), Chernihiv (41), Mykolaiv (30), Luhansk (30), Zaporizhia (22), Kherson (27), the city of Kyiv (16), as well as Sumy region (16) and Zhytomyr region (15).
In particular, on March 10, in the Izium district of Kharkiv region, a woman and a child died of explosive injuries in a Russian air strike. On March 30, their bodies were found under the rubble of an apartment block wiped out in the attack.
On March 12, a boy who was being treated in a Mariupol-based children’s hospital died as a result of Russian a shelling. He turned out to be the brother of little gymnast Kateryna, who had been killed a few days earlier.
On March 23, a toddler, 3, was killed in shelling of Velyko-oleksandrivka district, Kherson region.
On March 29, a boy, 14, sustained shrapnel wounds in the village of Davydiv Brid, Beryslav District, Kherson region.
On March 30, two civilians were killed and five others, including a six-month-old infant, were injured in a car crash in Chuhuiv district, Kharkiv region.
On the same day, two children aged 2 and 7 were seriously injured in the shelling of Lysychansk, Luhansk region.
In addition, 797 educational facilities were damaged in Russian bombing and shelling. Seventy-six were completely destroyed.
The worst situation is being observed in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Kherson, Zhytomyr and Chernihiv regions, as well as in Kyiv.
As Ukrinform reported, referring to the UN, since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, 1,179 peaceful Ukrainians have died and another 1,860 have been injured.
