Beryslav mayor released from Russian captivity

Oleksandr Shapovalov, the mayor of Beryslav city (Kherson region), has been released from Russian captivity.

Ukrinform repots this with a reference to the website of Beryslav City Council.

"Yesterday Beryslav Mayor Oleksandr Shapovalov was released from captivity. These have been 16 long and difficult days for everyone," the report says.

Now the mayor is at home, feels good and is trying to return to normal life, according to the city council.

As Ukrinform reported, in Kherson region, Russian invaders are kidnapping residents of the region: officials, deputies, public activists, journalists.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure facilities, conducting massive shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.

Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.
