Nearly 5,000 people evacuated on Wednesday - Vereshchuk
A total of 4,892 people were evacuated from dangerous areas in Ukraine on Wednesday, April 6.
Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk said this in a statement posted on messaging app Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"Some 4,892 people were evacuated today. A total of 3,686 people drove from Mariupol and Berdiansk in private vehicles and buses to Zaporizhia. Of these, 1,171 arrived from Mariupol and 2,515 people from Polohy, Vasylivka, Berdiansk, Melitopol and Huliaipole," Vereshchuk said.
A convoy of 11 buses left Zaporizhia today to evacuate residents of Melitopol and Tokmak. The buses are now in Vasylivka and will continue their trip tomorrow morning.
Buses will also depart from Zaporizhia tomorrow to evacuate people from the city of Berdiansk.
In the Luhansk region, 1,206 people were evacuated from the towns of Lysychansk, Sievierodonetsk, Rubizhne, Kreminna and the village of Hirske.
Eleven humanitarian corridors were agreed for Wednesday, April 6.
