Chemical attack on Mariupol: Azov reports on condition of those affected

Among the civilians affected by an unknown poisonous substance used by Russian troops in the city of Mariupol, an elderly woman has been reported to have the most serious symptoms.

The relevant statement was made by the Azov Regiment, defending Mariupol, on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The persons affected by the enemy’s unknown poisonous substance used in Mariupol are in relatively satisfactory condition. […] Among the civilians, an elderly woman has been reported to be in the worst condition. The main symptoms in those affected are facial hyperaemia, high blood pressure, dryness and burning of the oropharynx and the mucous membranes of the eyes,” the report states.

According to the Azov Regiment, civilians had a minimal contact with the poisonous substance. The impact area was at a certain distance from their location. The Ukrainian military were slightly closer.

Now it is impossible to inspect the scene due to the enemy’s shelling, as Russians are trying to cover the tracks of their crimes.

The Azov Regiment posted a video, depicting one serviceman in moderate condition. Two more servicemen require regular medical supervision.

“At the moment, we know that the enemy has used poisonous substances or potent poisonous substances, mostly causing suffocation. Due to the blockade, it is impossible to conduct their toxicological analysis. Meanwhile, the main task is to monitor the condition of personnel and the possible effects of poisoning,” the Azov Regiment stressed.

A reminder that, on April 11, 2022, the Azov Regiment reported that Russian troops had dropped an unknown poisonous substance in Mariupol, using an unmanned aerial vehicle.
