Russia may begin new offensive in coming days – media

Russia may begin a new offensive on Ukraine as soon as this weekend. The United States is working to convince allies to send more ammunition to Ukraine.

According to Ukrinform, this has been reported by NBC News with reference to two senior U.S. defense officials.

“Russia could begin the next phase of its military campaign as soon as this weekend or early next week,” the report says.

It is noted that the officials, whose briefing was given under the condition of anonymity, said that the U.S. is working to convince allies to send more artillery and ammunition to Ukraine so it doesn’t run out when the offensive ramps up. According to U.S. assessment, this could happen in the coming days.

Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar earlier said that the southern and eastern regions are strategic goals for the enemy before targeting the entire country.

Satellite images collected and analyzed by private U.S. company Maxar Technologies show Russia massing troops in the Belgorod region for a major offensive in eastern Ukraine.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure facilities, conducting massive shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.
