Enemy continues to bomb Azovstal plant
In Mariupol, Russian troops continue trying to eliminate the military and civilians who stay in the territory of the Azovstal plant. Shelling and bombing continue right now.
"Mariupol right now. Bombing and shelling of the territory of Azovstal is ongoing right now... I am sure that the occupiers will not stop until those inside Azovstal are completely destroyed. Both our defenders and civilians," Petro Andriushchenko, adviser to Mariupol mayor, posted on Telegram.
He believes that only external intervention and security guarantees from foreign partners can really save Mariupol and their defenders.
As the adviser noted, fighting is taking place in the area of a tram depot, which is located at a considerable distance from the territory of Azovstal. This proves the groundlessness of Russia's claims about the alleged full control over the city.
As reported, there are about 1,000 civilians and Ukrainian service members on the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, including about 500 wounded. Ukrainian authorities demand that the Russians must provide an urgent humanitarian corridor from the plant.
Mariupol experiences one of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes caused by Russia's aggression. The invaders bomb unarmed residents and block the delivery of humanitarian aid.
The Mariupol mayor said that up to 20,000 civilians had died in the city since the beginning of the Russian invasion. According to the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, 13 Russian mobile crematoriums function in Mariupol to clear the streets from the bodies of dead civilians. The invaders try to identify and eliminate all potential witnesses to the atrocities.
A total of about 150,000 residents have been evacuated from Mariupol, which has been blocked by Russian invaders since February 24, to the government-controlled territory. About 120,000 residents remain in the city. Attempts to evacuate civilians are being made.
Members of the Azov Regiment, motorized rifle brigade, and Marines continue to defend Mariupol.
