PM Shmyhal: Ukraine needs assistance to support IDPs, demine territories
Ukraine needs financial assistance to support internally displaced persons (IDPs), as well as to demine its territories.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated this during his working visit to Washington, where he met with Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and members of the U.S. Congress, Ukrinform reports, referring to the Government portal.
"Ukraine needs financial assistance to support internally displaced persons, as well as to ensure the demining of our territories. It is also very important to provide assistance to people who are near or in the war zone. We need to consolidate the efforts of our partners to help them,” Shmyhal said.
The Prime Minister stressed that Ukraine had been resisting the Russian aggressor in a large-scale war for 56 days. During time, it has received significant support from the United States. Nevertheless, it is crucial to ramp up sanctions pressure on Russia to force it to end the war in order to stop it from creating crises in democracies.
As reported, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal is on a working visit to the United States on April 21-22. He is taking part in a ministerial meeting as part of The 2022 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG). The program of the visit also includes meetings with representatives of Congress, heads of international financial and humanitarian organizations, and U.S. ministers.
