Azov Regiment destroyed at least 1,157 Russian troops in Mariupol

The Azov Regiment fighters have destroyed 1,157 enemy troops and damaged a large number of Russian military vehicles in the city of Mariupol since the Russian invasion started.

The relevant statement was made by the Azov Regiment on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The enemy was planning to seize Mariupol in three days. The Azov Regiment fought a desperate battle with the superior enemy forces, exceeding 14,000 troops. Despite the enemy aircrafts, heavy bombs, overwhelming enemy forces and naval artillery, [Mariupol] defenders stood between the enemy and the entire Ukraine. Since the occupiers’ full-scale invasion started, the Azov Regiment has eliminated 1,157 enemy troops according to the confirmed data (and 840 troops more that are yet to be confirmed),” the report states.

The aggressor’s sanitary losses reached 520 troops according to the confirmed data (and 3,150 troops that are yet to be confirmed).

According to the Azov Regiment, the following enemy military vehicles were destroyed or damaged: tanks (49 destroyed, 29 damaged); armored personnel carriers (23 destroyed, 24 damaged); infantry fighting vehicles (36 destroyed, 24 damaged); airborne assault vehicles (five destroyed); armored fighting vehicles – Typhoon (two destroyed, two damaged), Tigr (three destroyed, two damaged), Lynx (two destroyed, two damaged); trucks (25 destroyed, eight damaged).

The Azov Regiment also destroyed Russia’s Raptor patrol boat and damaged a Su-25 aircraft.

A reminder that the Russian armed aggression has caused one of the worst humanitarian catastrophes in the city of Mariupol. Russian troops are bombarding unarmed civilians and blocking the delivery of humanitarian aid.

About 1,000 civilians and Ukrainian servicemen, including about 500 wounded, are staying within the Mariupol-based Azovstal plant. The Ukrainian side is making every effort to force Russia to open a humanitarian corridor.
