Zelensky assures operation to evacuate people from Mariupol continues
President Volodymyr Zelensky has assured that the operation to evacuate civilians from Mariupol is ongoing.
President Zelensly said this in his video address, Ukrinform reports.
“We continue to do everything to rescue our people from Mariupol. The evacuation operation continues. Tomorrow we also expect movement through humanitarian corridors from Berdiansk, Tokmak, Vasylivka,” the Head of State stressed.
At the same time, according to him, the Armed Forces heroically restrain the enemy’s attempts to advance.
"Kharkiv direction, Donbas, the south of the country - everywhere the situation remains extremely difficult. But I am grateful to each and every one of our defenders who hold the defense,” Zelensky said.
As Ukrinform reported, as part of a special operation, on April 30, 20 civilians, including women and children, were evacuated from the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, which has been destroyed by Russian shelling.
On May 1, more than 100 civilians were evacuated from Mariupol. People were due to arrive in Zaporizhzhia in the morning of May 2, but they didn’t reach the city.
There are about 1,000 civilians and Ukrainian servicemen at the Azovstal steel plant.
Mariupol experiences one of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes caused by Russian aggression.
