Ten Ukrainian doctors already killed, over 40 medical facilities destroyed in war
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, ten doctors have been killed and 40 hospitals have been destroyed. Also, 500 damaged medical facilities are no longer able to provide medical treatment to patients.
This was announced by Health Minister Viktor Liashko, who spoke at a briefing at the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Center.
"Ukraine is a free democracy that is fighting to defend its freedom. Unfortunately, we are defending it while losing the lives of our citizens, including medics. Since the beginning of the war, 10 of my colleagues have been killed and more than 40 wounded. More than 40 hospitals have been destroyed and can no longer be rebuilt. About 500 hospitals have been damaged and cannot provide treatment. All this violates the WHO motto: ‘Health for all,’” said Liashko.
He stressed that Ukraine is currently unable to ensure medical care for those in need of it in the temporarily occupied territories or in combat zones.
"It is a danger zone for all Ukrainians as Russia violates all conventions and international law, using proscribed weapons, which leads to destruction," Liashko said.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the health chief had called on the WHO to unite with other humanitarian missions to ensure control over the provision of medical care to the Ukrainians remaining in Russian captivity.
