Odesa hotel on the coast ‘demilitarized’ in Russia’s missile strike
On May 8, 2022, the Russian military launched a missile strike on a hotel and restaurant complex, which is situated on the coast in the city of Odesa.
Ukrinform’s photojournalist paid a visit to the scene in the resort zone.
Russians launched three cruise missiles from the Black Sea on Odesa’s Kyivskyi District. One missile was shot down by the Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense units. The other two hit a residential sector and destroyed recreation areas. A municipal infrastructure facility was also damaged.
One of 3-floor sections of the hotel was destroyed in Russia’s missile strike. No casualties were reported, as it was empty at the moment of the strike. Adjacent sections were also damaged, and the beach was littered with the debris of buildings.
The total area covered with the rubble is 300 square meters.
According to Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office, pre-trial investigation has been launched into the violation of the laws and customs of war, as there are no military facilities located nearby.
A reminder that, on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, starting a war. Russian troops are shelling and destroying the key infrastructure facilities, launching missile and air strikes on Ukrainian cities and villages, torturing and murdering civilians.
