West needs to further increase weapons, ammunition supplies to Ukraine - expert

One of the key issues in ensuring defense and counteroffensive capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is to increase the number of weapons systems supplied by Western powers and the amount of ammunition for these systems.

Current deliveries are below 10 percent of Ukraine Army’s defense needs, says a Ukraine-based expert, head of the Center for Defense Reform, coordinator of the interdepartmental platform for countering hybrid threats, operating within the framework of Ukraine-NATO cooperation, Oleksandr V. Danyliuk, Guildhall reports.

“In the context of Western assistance, it’s not only the types of systems supplied to Ukraine that are cricial, but first of all the number of these systems and the amount of ammunition that is provided alongside. The main achievements that the enemy boasts of today are due to the fact that their forces absolutely outnumber the Armed Forces of Ukraine and inflct [more - ed.] fire strikes,” he said.

“Today, the amount of assistance does not cover even 10 percent of the defense needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, let alone those to set up counteroffensive action,” summed up Danyliuk.

As reported earlier, on May 31, U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the United States of America would provide Ukraine with more advanced rocket systems and ammunition so that the Ukrainian forces could hit key targets on the battlefield more precisely.

This will be the 11th package approved so far and the first to use funds from the $40 billion assistance package recently approved by Congress.
