Ukraine more professional in artillery use than Russia - Gen. Milley

Ukraine’s Army has proven effective in mastering western weapons supplied as part of security assistance, using these skills in combat against the outnumbering Russian forces.

That’s according to Chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley, who spoke at a press conference following the meeting of a Ukraine Defense Assistance Contact Group in Brussels, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“I will say this, the Ukrainian artillery, their skills -- the artillery skills of the Ukrainians are very, very good,” Gen. Milley said.

"They're top-notch gunners and the effect that they're achieving on the battlefield right now with the 777s has been very, very good, very effective and we expect the same out of the HIMARS,” he added.

Gen. Milley noted that the Russians resort to mass fire without necessarily achieving military effect.

“The Ukrainians on the other hand are using much better artillery techniques and they're having pretty good effect on the Russians,” he said. “So the Ukrainians are fighting a very effective fight tactically with both fires and maneuver. And that's significant.”

A so-called Ramstein 3 meeting of nearly 50 defense chiefs was held in Brussels on June 15 to discuss assistance for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
