179 bodies recovered from under rubble in Kharkiv Region since war started

In Kharkiv Region, a total of 179 bodies of victims have been recovered from under the rubble since the Russian invasion started.

The relevant statement was made by Deputy Head of the Main Department of the Ukrainian State Emergency Service in Kharkiv Region Anatolii Torianyk during a briefing at Kharkiv Media Hub, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Currently, Kharkiv garrison’s rescuers have dismantled the rubble within over 140 objects and rescued more than 160 people. Sadly, a total of 179 bodies of victims were recovered,” Torianyk told.

In his words, the most extensive rescue operations were carried out in Kharkiv’s Shevchenkivskyi District and Kyivskyi District, and Kharkiv District.

According to Torianyk, most rescuers from the Kharkiv Department, who remained within the occupied areas, continue working there.

“Some of our units have remained within the occupied areas. Except some of them, most rescuers work in a routine mode. Staff members go on duty, extinguish fire, rescue people… We keep in touch with them, and they report on their results,” Torianyk noted.

Torianyk mentioned that the humanitarian situation is very challenging in the temporary occupied city of Izium.

While on duty, three deminers and three rescuers from the Ukrainian State Emergency Service were killed. Fifteen more were injured.

A reminder that about 30% of Kharkiv Region is remaining under Russian occupation. A total of 860 civilians have been reported killed since the Russian invasion started.
