Fierce fighting ongoing near Lysychansk, city not encircled – Ukraine's National Guard
The situation in eastern Ukraine is currently the most difficult in the Lysychansk and Bakhmut directions, as well as in the Kharkiv region.
Ruslan Muzychuk, spokesman of Ukraine's National Guard, told this to Ukrainian TV channels, Ukrinform reports.
"Over the past few days, as can be seen from reports by the General Staff, the situation has been the most difficult in the Lysychansk, Bakhmutsk directions and in the Kharkiv region. In the Sloviansk direction, the enemy is attempting to conduct assault operations and improve their tactical position," he said.
He added that taking full control of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions remains the enemy's goal.
Muzychuk clarified that fierce fighting is currently taking place near Lysychansk, but the city itself is not encircled and is controlled by Ukrainian forces.
At the same time, there is a great threat of rocket and artillery shelling of the southern and northern regions of Ukraine, including the border areas of the Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
At the same time, Muzychuk added that at the beginning of the all-out invasion of Ukraine, Russian forces used more modern missiles. "Now, Soviet-made missiles are used. However, they are no less dangerous," he said.
Muzychuk said that both the National Police and the National Guard are taking many measures to strengthen the Ukrainian border regions, including parts of the border with Belarus.
"There, in addition to actions related to the direct strengthening of the state border, preventive measures are being taken to individuals who can cooperate with the enemy and provide information for launching strikes," he said.
