Russian war in Ukraine: 363 children die since invasion

Due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian forces, more than 1,081 children were affected across the country, of which 363 died.

That’s according to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office, Ukrinform reports.

"As of the morning of August 20, 2022, more than 1,081 children were affected in Ukraine as a result of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation. According to the official information of the juvenile prosecutors, 363 children were killed and more than 718 sustained injuries of various degrees of severity," the message specifies.

The Prosecutor General's Office noted that these numbers are not final, as work is ongoing to verify data coming from the zones of active hostilities, temporarily occupied and liberated territories.

According to the agency, the largest number of affected children was reported in Donetsk region (377), Kharkiv region (202), Kyiv region (116), Chernihiv region (68), Luhansk region (61), Mykolaiv region (61), Kherson region (55), and Zaporizhia region (41).

In particular, on August 19, an 8-year-old girl was injured as a result of artillery shelling by the enemy forces in the village of Shevchenkivske, Zaporizhia region. On August 12, a 12-year-old girl was injured by Russian shelling in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region.

"It also became known about the death of a 9-year-old girl on May 27 as a result of shelling by the invaders of residential buildings in the village of Velyke Artakove, Mykolaiv region," the PGO said.

Also, 224 children are considered missing, 6,950 – deported, 4,774 – found, and 50 – returned.

The officials note that 2,328 educational facilities were damaged due to Russian bombing and shelling, of which 289 were completely destroyed.
