Case of Russian colonel-general who tried to capture Kyiv forwarded to court

The Russian army colonel-general who led the military operation during the attempt to seize the territory of the Kyiv region and the City of Kyiv from the west will be tried in a Ukrainian court.

This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office, according to Ukrinform.

"The Prosecutor General's Office forwarded to court an indictment against the colonel-general of the Russian Armed Forces. This is the commander of the eastern military district of the aggressor power, who participated in the preparation, planning, and organization of the invasion of the territory of the northern regions of Ukraine by subordinate units. He also led a military operation during an attempt to capture the territory of the Kyiv region and the City of Kyiv from the western direction," the statement reads.

The pre-trial investigation has established that a high-ranking military official, leading the Russian grouping East, as part of the Russian army, occupied the village of Zdvizhivka in the Bucha district. There, in the second half of March, he headquartered in a seized kindergarten. From there, he was giving orders for the conduct of combat missions and supervised their execution.

Also, at the stadium of a captured school in the nearby village of Katiuzhanka, which had also been occupied, the colonel-general of the Russian armed forces conferred Russian state awards to subordinate servicemen.

Such actions are a violation of international humanitarian law.

A high-ranking official of the Russian army is accused of encroaching on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine and planning, preparing, unleashing, and waging a war of aggression (Part 3 of Article 110, Part 2 of Article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

For such crimes, the Criminal Code provides for life imprisonment.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine has collected evidence regarding the war crimes allegedly committed by another three Russian military servicemen who had committed atrocities during the occupation of Kyiv region.
