Zelensky: Ukraine needs specific weapons to achieve specific results on battlefield
Ukraine has gained certain successes on the battlefield thanks to its brave defenders and weapons provided by international partners, but to achieve further gains, specific assistance is still needed.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the issue at a joint press meeting in Kyiv with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"It must be said that specific actions on the battlefield are specific operations supported by specific weapons. And that’s not to mention the courage of our Armed Forces because we can see their result," Zelensky said.
He noted that the country needs heavy military equipment, as well as effective air defense and anti-missile defense systems, but there are not too many countries that can help the nation close the sky. The president added that currently there are positive results in negotiations with German partners regarding the supply of NASAMS and IRIS-T, but the process is developing not as quickly as Ukraine needs.
Of course, the head of state added, he would like all countries that are able to provide heavy equipment to Ukraine, including the United States of America, as well as Germany and some European states, to open up such an opportunity. "We are grateful for all the help they’re providing us, for all the help to strengthen our Armed Forces, but I’d like to emphasize that what is happening today, for example, in Kharkiv regoin, where there are some positive developments, is thanks to the Armed Forces and the things that we received specifically, the ones we had specifically requested. However, we did not get all (of what we’d requested - ed.). It is very important that U.S. support us, if there is such an opportunity, with what we need," Zelensky said.
At the same time, the president emphasized that it is no secret that Russia is attacking civilian infrastructure.
"Regarding the shelling of the Karachun district in Kryvyi Rih, where there were Russian missile attacks, strikes on the dam, etc. We understand that there are no military units there which they would hit," he said.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, on Wednesday afternoon, Russian cruise missiles struck the hydrotechnical facilities in Kryvyi Rih. As a result of the damage inflicted, the water level in the Inhulets River rose by up to 2 meters.
On Thursday, September 15, the enemy launched another missile attack on Kryvyi Rih.
