Number of children killed by Russian troops in Ukraine grows to 390 - prosecutors

A total of 390 children have been killed and 757 wounded in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion.

Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office said this in a Telegram post, Ukrinform reports.

"As of the morning of September 18, 2022, more than 1,147 children in Ukraine were affected as a result of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation. According to official information from juvenile prosecutors, 390 children were killed and more than 757 sustained injuries of varying degrees of severity," the report said.

These figures are not final as efforts are ongoing to establish casualties in areas of active hostilities, in temporarily captured and liberated territories.

Most children were affected in Donetsk region – 395, Kharkiv region – 219, Kyiv region – 116, Mykolaiv region – 72, Chernihiv region – 68, Luhansk region – 61, Kherson region – 55, Zaporizhzhia region – 46, Dnipropetrovsk region – 26.

On September 17, Russian forces launched a missile strike on a residential neighborhood in Chuhuiv, Kharkiv region. An 11-year-old girl was injured in the strike and later died at the hospital.

On the same day, a two-year-old boy was injured in Russia's shelling of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region.

Some 2,500 educational institutions have been damaged due to bombing and shelling by the Russian armed forces. Of them, 289 were completely destroyed.
