Ukraine downs 18 Russian missiles, 8 kamikaze drones on Tuesday
Air defense units have already shot down eight kamikaze drones and 18 cruise missiles Russia launched across Ukraine on Tuesday.
That’s according to Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman for the Air Force Command, who spoke at a Kyiv briefing.
"The attack continued today. From the very morning, from 3:00 to 5:30, kamikaze drones were attacking. In the south, eight kamikaze drones were shot down by our servicemen, forces and means of Operational Command South. A really successful result as only a few drones managed to fly through, while most of them were destroyed. And then came the first wave of attacks where Tu-160 and Tu-95 strategic bombers were employed, which took off from the Astrakhan region and struck from Russia’s Caspian littoral. These are strategic missile carriers capable of carrying multiple missiles, each aircraft can carry eight to twelve Kh-101 and Kh-555 missiles," Ihnat emphasized.
The spokesman added that four such missiles were shot down by Ukraine’s air defense forces in the country’s south.
During the second wave of attacks, which lasted until 13:00, strikes were also carried out on a number of objects across the territory of Ukraine.
"To those four missiles that were destroyed in the morning, at least 14 more cruise missiles were added that were also destroyed by our air defenses," the spokesman said.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, on October 10, Russia launched a massive missile attack on the territory of Ukraine. In total, the invaders launched 83 missiles of various types, of which 43 were downed by Ukrainian air defense forces.
As a result of the shelling, about 70 infrastructure targets were damaged, of which 29 were critical infrastructure objects. As of 7:00 on Tuesday, October 11, a total of 19 people were killed in the strikes, while 105 were injured.
