The police have completed exhumation procedures at the largest mass burial site in the Donetsk region’s Lyman. A total of 111 bodies of civilians and 35 of the Ukrainian military were recovered.

The relevant statement was made by the Main Department of the National Police of Ukraine in the Donetsk region, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The police have completed investigative actions in a cemetery in Lyman, where two mass burial sites were discovered after the city was liberated from the Russian aggressor. Civilians were buried in one location, and Ukrainian defenders – in the other. Those killed were buried in trenches. Some graves are nameless. As a result of extensive works, which had lasted for over two weeks, the investigators recovered 146 bodies,” the report states.

According to the police, twenty-five spontaneous burial sites were discovered in Lyman. The investigative teams are now working there.

Generally, across the Donetsk region’s liberated areas, there are 58 of such burial sites. Every day the police receive more and more reports from local residents about burials. However, it is impossible to access some graves due to active hostilities at the moment.

In general, a total of 166 bodies have been exhumed in the north of the Donetsk region so far. Among the civilian victims, there were 85 men, 66 women, five children, and 10 of those whose sex had not yet been identified.

According to the preliminary data, most victims died from shrapnel injuries and natural causes. Some bodies bore signs of a violent death. The number of those who were executed by Russian soldiers will be reported as soon as all expert examinations are completed.
