Claim filed with ECHR over Russia's shelling of TV towers in Ukraine
Ukraine’s public broadcaster UA:PBC submitted a statement to the European Court of Human Rights due to the shelling of TV transmission towers by Russian invasion forces.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, according to Ukrinform.
"Cynically violating the laws and customs of war, Russia is shelling Ukrainian cities, including television transmission towers, so that Ukrainians cannot receive information about the threats in time," the report says.
It is noted that as a result of Russian attacks, television towers were struck in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Izium, Lysychansk (Luhansk region), Korosten (Zhytomyr region), Bilopillia (Sumy region), Antopil (Rivne region), Vinnytsia, and Orikhiv (Zaporizhia region). Broadcasting in these territories was suspended for a while. The Russian forces seized the TV tower in Melitopol, suspending broadcasting in several cities; attempts were made to jam the signal of the UA:PBC channels on the Amos satellite; an attempt was made to destroy the television archive in a cyberattack on the website.
As reported, Ukraine has officially sent a lawsuit against the Russian Federation to the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague.
