Exhumation works begin at mass grave of Ukrainian military in Kharkiv region
In the Kharkiv region’s liberated areas, law enforcement officers have started exhumation works at the mass grave of the Ukrainian military killed back in April 2022.
The relevant statement was made by Head of the Main Department of the National Police of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region Volodymyr Tymoshko on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“In cooperation with Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the Kharkiv region’s police have started to work at the mass burial site of the Ukrainian servicemen. They were killed during retreat in April. According to local residents, rashists collected bodies in two trucks. In the cemetery, they threw bodies into a pit. In a heap. Like firewood. They left no burial mark,” Tymoshko wrote.
In his words, villagers placed crosses there on their own and took care of the mass burial site as much as they could.
Due to unfavorable weather conditions, only three bodies have been recovered today. In general, about 17 servicemen were buried there. Investigative actions will last several days.
A reminder that over 600 bodies of those who had fallen victims to the Russian armed aggression were exhumed within the Kharkiv region’s liberated areas.
