Monastyrskyy: Invaders mining territory twice as densely during retreat
In the recently liberated territories, the mined areas are twice as dense as in the de-occupied part of Kyiv or Chernihiv regions.
"If earlier we talked about mine clearance in Luhansk region, Donetsk region, then, unfortunately, now we have to say that most of the territory of our state needs demining. Indeed, virtually everything [in the recently de-occupied territories] has been demined. If we compare the situation with Kyiv region or Chernihiv region, the mined areas are twice as dense. This, of course, is related to the duration of the enemy's stay there and the fact that they use this method to deter our troops," Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyy said on the air of the nationwide telethon.
He noted that mine clearance operations were carried out by two services – the State Emergency Service and the police. Over the recent months, the State Emergency Service has discovered more than 250,000 explosive objects, police – another 130,000 objects.
Western experts also help Ukrainian explosives technicians. According to Monastyrskyy, when humanitarian demining specialists see the scope of necessary work, they say that it will last dozens of years. "However, looking at the efforts made by our specialists, one must admit that their efficiency is many times higher," the minister noted.
