Russia will not be able to win war in Ukraine despite its despicable tactics - State Dept
The U.S. Department of State has called on Russia to stop its atrocities in Ukraine and end a war that it has no chance of winning, no matter what crimes its forces commit against peaceful Ukrainians.
State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said this at a briefing on Friday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"We urgently call on Russia to withdraw its forces [from Ukraine] to end a needless war that it cannot and will not win, no matter how despicable and desperate its tactics," he said.
He noted that there is only one country – Russia - waging an unprovoked, premeditated war of choice, with willful disregard for human rights.
Patel drew attention to the latest report of the Conflict Observatory program that details numerous instances indicating unjust detentions, disappearances in Kherson at the hands of Russia's forces during its brutal war.
"Today, we reiterate our call again for Russia to halt its filtration operations, its violations and abuses of human rights, its violations of international humanitarian law and the violation of the UN Charter," he said.
He also added that the United States remains "unwavering in [its] support for the government and people of Ukraine, as they defend their country and their freedom."
