Biden announces allocation of $400M in new security assistance to Ukraine
U.S. President Joe Biden issued a memorandum on the allocation of an additional $400 million in security assistance to Ukraine.
“By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including section 621 of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (FAA), I hereby delegate to the Secretary of State the authority under section 506(a)(1) of the FAA to direct the drawdown of up to $400 million in defense articles and services of the Department of Defense, and military education and training, to provide assistance to Ukraine and to make the determinations required under such section to direct such a drawdown,” reads the Memorandum on Delegation of Authority released on the website of the White House.
At the same time, the details of the new package have not yet been revealed.
The previous tranche of U.S. assistance was announced on November 10. It provided, in particular, for the delivery of missiles for HAWK systems, four Avenger air defense systems and Stinger missiles for them, the ammunition for HIMARS systems to Ukraine.
The day before, a bipartisan group of US senators called on the Biden administration to provide Ukraine with MQ-1C Gray Eagle combat drones.
