US pledges to send Ukraine new air defense capabilities

The Biden administration condemned Russia’s latest missile attack on Ukraine, targeting mainly civilian infrastructure, and announced another security aid package.

A relevant statement was made by U.S. National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications John Kirby, CNN reports.

Kirby said Russia is “again trying to put fear into the hearts of the Ukrainian people and to make it that much harder on them as winter is now upon them.” He condemned Russia’s actions, saying the attacks hit “largely civilian infrastructure.”

The representative of the administration noted that the United States is preparing a new package of security assistance to Ukraine adding that it will include air defense capabilities. He emphasized that the US is in constant contact with the Ukrainian side to determine the current needs of the country.

As reported, on the morning of December 16, Russia launched yet another missile attack on Ukrainian infrastructure. There is no electricity or water supply in several cities. The air defense forces of Ukraine shot down 60 missiles out of 76.
