Russian torture chamber discovered in Kherson regional police department

In Kherson, law enforcement officers discovered a torture chamber that the Russian invaders had set up in the premises of the regional police department.

"In Kherson, specialized interdepartmental investigative teams continue to work to investigate crimes committed by the Russian military during the occupation of the city. One of the teams worked in the administrative building of the National Police Main Department in Kherson Region, where the occupiers had set up a torture chamber in the basement," the Kherson region police reported.

It is noted that the invaders held Kherson residents, particularly retired law enforcement officers and patriots who refused to cooperate with the enemy, in inhumane conditions. During the inspection, law enforcement officers discovered and seized objects and other evidence indicating that the invaders had tortured Kherson residents.

Currently, the police document the crimes committed by Russian servicemen. Witnesses and the number of victims, the identity of the torturers are being established. The pre-trial investigation was opened under Part 1 of Art. 438 (Violation of laws and customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As reported, the police discovered seven torture chambers and eight detention facilities after a part of Kherson region was liberated from Russian invaders.

In the temporarily captured territory of Kherson region, the invaders kidnap local residents, engage in looting, and rob businesses.

According to NGO “CrimeaSOS”, at least 575 residents of Kherson region became victims of kidnappings in 2022.
