Death toll in Russian missile strike on Dnipro rises to 29

The death toll in Russia's January 14 missile strike on a nine-story apartment block in Dnipro has risen to 29, with more than 550 rescuers working at the site of the attack.

Valentyn Reznichenko, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, said this in a post on the Telegram messaging app, Ukrinform reports.

"The search operation in Dnipro has been going on for more than a day. More than 550 rescuers, police officers, doctors, utility workers, and volunteers are working non-stop," he wrote.

He added that firefighters had managed to extinguish the fire that started after the strike. About half of the structures destroyed by the Russian missile have already been dismantled.

Reznichenko added that the enemy missile had killed 29 people and injured 73 others.

"In the afternoon, a 27-year-old woman was pulled out of the ruins. She is in intensive care with severe hypothermia. Doctors are fighting for her life," he said.

In total, 39 residents of the building were rescued from the rubble. The fate of more than 40 is unknown.

Four more patients are in critical condition in intensive care.
